This summer, I traveled with my extended family on an Alaskan cruise and one of my favorite ways to find places to explore while on my travels is through Instagram hashtags. I had a 24-hour timeframe available to do some solo traveling before my flight back to the midwest–too short of a time to explore north to Denali– and I wanted to end on a high-note instead of sticking around the airport.

As I clicked through the blackhole of social media and skipping around to different hashtags, I happed to land on #styledshootsacrossamerica and my intrigue was sparked.

Participating in a styled shoot had been on my business bucket list for a few years. A styled shoot is a creative professional development for wedding or creative vendors and entrepreneurs. The benefits of a styled shoot include: creative outlet for different vendors to collaborate on ideas outside of their paying client, networking amongst others within the business, a time to showcase different offerings, to build one’s portfolio, and is continuing education to build on skills.

What makes Styled Shoots Across America unique is that the founder, Heather Benge, set out on a bucket-list of her own to complete styled shoots in every state in America. I couldn’t believe when I went to the website, and saw that her Alaska checkmark happened to be an upcoming shoot hosted in Homer, AK in the exact 24-hour stretch that I was looking!

I have since heard Heather speak at the MBA Wedding Convention and am so impressed with her ability to create community within the wedding business!
